The Ups and Downs of Wireless Home Security Cameras
Crime is everywhere and so technology is fast catching up on how to deter crime. Today we have a wide range of security cameras available. Some are wireless and some require wires for connection. Security cameras have a lot of advantages- the first and foremost is crime prevention. They also offer other benefits such as watching over your child at night or making sure the babysitter is treating the child correctly.
Recently there has been a trend to install wireless security cameras. These cameras avoid the clutter of wires and can be more inconspicuous. They can be installed almost anywhere as there is no wiring required. Further because there is no extensive wiring and connection required, these cameras can be very tiny. They can be installed almost anywhere. There is no need for long cables running everywhere in the house or outside. The only requirement for a wireless camera to work is that the signal be obtained on the transmitter.
Many home owners have installed wireless cameras, mainly on the inside of the house where wiring is problematic. These cameras can then be connected to computers or video recorder. They work on the same principle as an expensive cordless phone.
Installing wireless home security cameras is simple. The tiny cameras can be placed almost anywhere. However, there are a few drawbacks to the use of wireless camera for security. In all cases the range of transmissible signal is anywhere from 2-500 feet. If the camera is placed further than this distance, the signal can not be obtained and there is no picture.
Many of these wireless devices require a battery to keep the camera recharged (just like a portable phone). And the batteries do tend to run out fast depending on the frequency of use. Most wireless security cameras are only for short term use if they are not recharged. While they provide excellent images from anywhere, they are not meant for continuous use. And they cost a lot more compared to their wired counterparts.
